The Gin-aissance –– a widely loved Indian movement of growth, popularity, and success of gin being (re)introduced in India, began a few years ago, and seems to be carrying on in full swing. With an increasing number of people taking a newfound liking to gin, Indian food and beverage entrepreneurs keep the joy coming with new gin brands.

Among those is the Jaisalmer Indian Craft Gin, a triple-distilled neutral grain spirit that is re-distilled in a traditional copper pot staying true to the age-old handcrafted recipe that works in a time-honoured way. An ode to the vibrant historical city of Jaisalmer, the craft gin wishes to take one back to the imperial age of Maharajas (kings) and Maharanis (queens) and their leisure moments with the 11 regal botanicals that make up this gin.

Manufactured by Radico Khaitan, one of the oldest known whisky distillers in India, the gin is derived from the ancient Indian knowledge of herbs. While the Jaisalmer Indian Craft Gin retains the classic juniper berries gin flavour, it has the refreshing twist of hand-picked Indian botanicals, one that lingers after drinking it.

Of the 11 botanicals used in the distillation, 7 have been sourced from all four corners of India. For the slightly spicy notes of the gin, the coriander and vetiver, a complex spice with intriguing peppery notes, are grown in the fields around Jaisalmer in Northern India. The sweet orange peel, which complements the citrus and floral tones of the gin, comes from Central India. Cubeb berries and lemon grass from Southern India, Darjeeling green tea leaves from Eastern India and lemon peel from Western India. Other botanicals include angelica roots, liquorice and caraway seeds lending a spicy, slightly anise-tinged flavour to the gin.
