Behind The Scenes At Johnnie Walker #TheJourney [In Photos & Text]

By any sensible metric, our appetite for both the consumption and delivery for progressive live music in india is still at a nascent stage. Or at least, that’s what we’re used to being fed by everyone pushing this bandwagon forward. But if Saturday night’s Johnnie Walker #TheJourney gig is anything to go by; we’ve officially come, seen and conquered.

A one-night-only tradition for just two years before this, Johnnie Walker #TheJourney and Oranjuice Entertainment had already set the bar exponentially higher than we’re used to with acts like Bonobo and Snarky Puppy taking the stage amidst stellar production. Depending on how you’d label a half-filled glass though, you might believe that the sheer success of previous editions ensured there was only room for a rerun this year, at the most.  Only, you couldn't have been more wrong.

Between post-rock legends, Explosions In The Sky, king of the after-hours and sunrise sets, Tycho, and one of the founders of electronic and disco music, Giorgio Moroder’s incredible sets, the tone of the party was set from the first note, and there was no room for lyrical outrage or over-the-top-theatrics here. Instead, this was once again a show that was dedicated to showcasing out-and-out quality in terms of programming, production, and most of all, artistry.

As a rule, we don’t do reviews here at Homegrown, but we felt compelled to share a snippet of our experience at what we’re willing to call the best audio-visual experience of 2015, thus far. Johnnie Walker's #TheJourney and Oranjuice Entertainment were gracious enough to invite us to shoot from behind the stage this year, so here’s a little glimpse of what went down through our lens. Not to mention what all-access days and nights surrounded by some of the world’s greatest musicians really looks like.

Suffice to say, The Journey till 2016’s 4th edition seems far too distant right now, but we’re completely sure it’ll be worth the trip.
