HG Picks: 7 Fashion Brands We Hope To See In India Soon

With the influx of international brands in the market, India is slowly opening up avenues for foreign brands to set up stores in big malls all over the city. Whether it is big names like ZARA or established franchises like Forever 21, investors have started to warm up to the idea of pushing retail outlets of some highly coveted brand names. Now with the news of the arrival of H & M being added to the mix, we couldn't help daydream a little and design our own personal list of outlets that we hope to see in India in the near future:

I. URBAN OUTFITTERS

Urban Outfitters is the transitional brand with a mix of styles- but mostly aimed for college students. The bohemian style and cutting-edge fashion suits anyone’s taste or budget, allowing you to tap into the retro-style vogue chick you really are/ are desperately trying to be. Embodying the best part of contemporary fashion, Urban Outfitters creates a distinct niche with its individual style.

II. ANTHROPOLOGIE

Run by the same owner of Urban Outfitters, Anthropologie adopts similar undertones of contemporary, preppy, and Bohemian style. Beyond clothes, it also has an array of vintage household fixtures, stunning jewelry, belts and other surprising pieces like a selection of soaps, books, stationery, candles, mug etc.

IV. TOPSHOP

Topshop is a British multinational retailer that specializes in fashion clothing, shoes, make-up and accessories. Their fashion aesthetic is graphic and playful, often creating statements with their classic tones. V. AMERICAN APPAREL

Bound by its country’s name, American Apparel is a clothing manufacturer, distributor, and retailer in the United States. Best known for making basic, solid-color cotton knitwear such as T-shirts and underwear, its “apparel” has also expanded to include leggings, leotards, tank tops, vintage clothing, dresses, pants, denim, nail polish, bedding and accessories for men, women, children, babies, and even dogs in various prints and colors.

VI. BLACK MILK CLOTHING

Any franchise that has collections titled after pop culture references (think Hogwarts, Middle Earth, Corpse Bride and more) is a franchise we want closer to home. This might just be the least accessible brand on the list, which is we saved it for last, but it’s also one of our favourites thanks to its keenly unique aesthetics. Based in Brisbane, the label focuses purely on nylon and lycra clothing such as leggings, swimsuits, skater skirts and t-shirts and has found its way to the forefront of the fashion scene even with the most unconventional marketing strategies. They have the kind of manic community following that allows us to sign off here because in all honesty, their design sensibility speaks for itself.

VII. Toms Shoes, Eyewear & Coffee

The brand only recently diversified into the slightly random coffee arena but the combination of products and philosophies are so powerful that we couldn’t help but include them in this list. Having produced iconic canvas footwear since 2007 (now popular with everyone from celebrities to hipsters) company’s founder, Blake Mycoskie has always ensured that his brand is known for more than just his shoes. By shacking up with giving partners across the globe, the brand is now responsible for having provided over 10 million pairs of shoes to needy children in just seven years thanks to their ‘Buy-one-give-one’ policy. Luckily for us, his ultimate vision is global domination so he has every intention of making his way over to our subcontinent sooner than we think.
