John Yves Lemoigne’s Surrealistic Work Is Designed To Expand Your Mind

An award-winning photographer, John Yves Lemoigne’s approach to his work is anomalous, to say the least. One of the few artists of his calibre to have maintained a distinct balance between commercial and personal repertoires, he prefers to create sketches that help chalk out a plan on how to take a photo. And the sketches are usually as intriguing as the final product.
We first came across the ‘pixellation’ image below and it led us down an inevitable trail through the interweb to collect every crumb Lemoigne was kind enough to toss its way. Before long, it became obvious that the man has the penchant for the surreal. The lens with which he examines every day subjects is essentially something out of a Lewis Carroll novel dipped in potent hallucinogenics. A hyperbolic statement, but true nevertheless.

His photos in motion series that toys with the only rule photography rests on—stillness. Though the motion he showcases in each is deliberately subtle, the originality behind each work really sticks out. And it’s not as simple as animating a GIF either because the complexity of creating this movement increases with hi-res portraiture.
