Women seldom know most of their legal rights in various phases of their lives. With no access to legal education in the language they understand, they are short changed when it comes to justice and demanding their individual rights. All of this might change soon with the ‘Girls Gotta Know’ website.

Launched in September 2016, this website has most of the basic knowledge about legal rights a woman has in different areas of her life right from relationships, employment, partying and even renting or buying a house. The website can be translated in Hindi too. Indian women can now access knowledge about their rights when it comes to sexual violence, domestic abuse, how to deal with the police, rights at work, adoption, child care and even living with a same sex partner.
With six carefully titled bars from Relationships, Partying and Trouble, Housing and Renting, Employment, Money and Extra, the user-friendly interface and quirky explanations are aiming at the right audience.

An Australian firm helped to make this website a reality. “Women’s Legal Service Tasmania is excited to be collaborating with TRS Law Offices (India) and see this as a fantastic opportunity not only to see an innovative Tasmanian project adapted to Indian market, but to play a small but supportive role in the huge work being undertaken in delivering information to the young women of India,” Susan Fahey, CEO of Women’s Legal Service Tasmania, said in a press release.

It is harmful to not know our rights as citizens in this country and more so for women. The new website explains many things in simple and lucid terms which also looks attractive to read. We hope this website reaches women that need it the most and make others aware in the process.
