Vincent Van Gogh Biopic Is The World's First Ever Fully Painted Movie

In 2014, the Oscar-winning studio Breakthru Films began work on the world’sfirst fully painted feature-length film. It started out as a project on Kickstarter and earlier this year they released the movie’s trailer, giving us a glimpse of what we can expect from this landmark movie.

The movie, Loving Vincent takes the viewers into the life of Vincent Van Gogh, from his works to his death, through fictional interviews with the characters in his paintings. Around 800 letters that had been written by the artist himself makes up for much of the movie’s storyline. The letters gives us an insight into his closest personal connections and to events leading to  his death. Each shot in the movie is made using a new oil pointing, with movements being added from one frame to other by the painters. The movie features the work of over 100 trained artists who, as a collective, were responsible for creating more than 56,000 hand-drawn paintings in the style of the late Impressionist.

The film, directed by Polish painter Dorota Kobiela and filmmaker Hugh Welchman will be one the greatest tributes made to the artist who wrote in one of his letters that: “The truth is, we cannot speak other than by our paintings.”
