Fries have always played the sidekick, the Robin to Burgers’ Batman, if we do say so. But no more, we know and believe that fries deserve more credit and that’s why on this list we focus solely on these little delicious pieces of potato that makes our lives infinitely better.

Whether it is the classic salted version or a complex combination of fries, sauces and accompaniments, there’s no better munchie that deserves a place more in the Hall of Fame than the humble French fry.

We’ve carefully curated the best of Pune’s French fry offerings and if you agree/ disagree/want to feed us more fries, do let us know in the comments below.

I. Mexican Chilli Lamb Fries at Aufside @ Hotfut

While this place is known being one of the best sports bars in town, it is really their poutine that put them up there with the greats. We like their cheese and jalapeno fries a lot ( and when we say a lot, we mean A LOT). But there’s just something about their Mexican-spiced chilli lamb that has coming back for me. The spices help tenderize the meat and goes well with the crunchiness of the fries which are bathed in the thick-sauce that screams ‘salsa’ but is not. So the next time you’re down here to watch a game, you know what to order.

Cost: Treat yourself to this delicacy at Rs. 220

II. The Hot Mess at Breaking Bread

With a name like “The Hot Mess”, we can relate to these fries on a spiritual level. If ever there was a comfort food that held a special place in our hearts, it is this one. You have your soft but not soggy french fries, cooked to perfection and then dunked in a spicy bean mixture and then further slathered with enough cheese for your cardiologist to be concerned. And to top off this beauty, there is of course, the thick and tangy salsa that will make your heart want to tango. Too much? Na, we think it’s just enough to keep us smiling all day long.

Cost: Pretty Affordable at Rs. 150

III. Barn Ultimate Fries at The Burger Barn Cafe

If your mom nags you to eat more veggies, then these are the fries for you- The Barn Ultimate Fries which not just have potato but sweet caramelized onions too. The cheese neutralises some of the spicy in the seasoning and compliments the homemade sauce that is a well kept secret. These fries go well with any burger from the plethora of options that you can pick from.

Cost: Buy your burger a good friend at Rs. 145

IV. Papas Bravas Salsa at Cuba Libre

S 37, Level 2, Seasons Mall,Magarpatta

With its vibrant dance floor and famous Karaoke nights, Cube Libre has enough publicity. But what we want to focus on is there scrumptious French fries that will make you forget the bustling crowd around you. This Cuban themed joint’s fiery poutine boasts a rich and well-balanced salsa that compliments the crisp fries that are topped with grated cheese. But what we truly enjoy is the texture of the chopped chives and the punch of the sour cream.

Cost: Make your night a little more saucy at Rs. 240

V. Salsa and Sour Cream Fries at Double Roti

With crazy yet cozy interiors and delicious dishes, this relatively new place has been making waves in Pune. But it is the Salsa and Sour cream fries that has filled the void in our stomachs. The sour cream is slightly reminiscent of the namesake Lay’s flavour and the Salsa hits all the right spots. It checks all the boxes on our list and that’s why we always leave with a smile on our face.

Cost: Make your tastebuds tingle for a mere Rs.155

VI. Cheesy Fries at Holy Smokes

For a place that’s tucked away, this restaurant sure does have great footfall. Along with its extensive international menu and gorgeous Insta-worthy interiors, Holy Smokes should be a must-visit for all fries-lovers because of its Cheesy Fries. The crunchiness of the potatoes and the light and airy gravy allows the cheese be the star of the show. So if you are one with a milder taste in spices, look no further for your all poutine needs.

Cost: Drown your sorrows in its cheesy goodness at Rs. 115

VII. T&S Poutine Fries at Tales and Spirits

With a sea of lip-smacking vegetarian and suave interiors, this place is the right place to head for a nice night out. But the stand-out on their menu is the T&S Poutine which boasts of garlic-tinged creamy cheese and fresh corn kernels. This classic packs a pleasant punch and pairs well with their pizzas and non-alcoholic drinks.

Cost: Totally worth it at Rs. 200

VIII. WTF French Fries at WTF!

Sometimes you need something that is spectacular to make you say those three little words- WTF! And their good old Wtf! fries do just that - they are so simple, yet so delicious, even we were confused as to why we love them so damn much. Maybe it is crispiness of the perfectly cooked potato, the right amount of seasoning and the mindblowing dip that keeps the crowd coming back for more. And it proves that sometimes, less is more.

Cost: Eat your heart out at Rs.180
