For most, true relaxation and peace of mind comes with a side of nature and a whole lot of leaves - not something we can all get down to doing as much as we need. Big city life has us in its grasp, leaving us with an insatiable craving for time with ourselves. Amidst the chaotic mess that Bangalore has become, we’ve found ourselves a little oasis in the form of 1000 Petals. Right in the heart of the city, this is a sanctuary for meditation, therapy and scientific spirituality.

Founded by Amitabh Swetta and Vartika Gupta, 1000 Petals’ mission is to open the doors of perception through meditation, dance and therapies while making human beings aware of the physical surroundings and metaphysical selves. There are two very unique types of therapy offered here - The Lucia Light Therapy and the Sensory Deprivation Therapy. Most people have never heard of either ever in their lives.

You know that feeling right before you fall into deep sleep, or just before you fully wake up? There’s a word for it - hypnagogia. It’s where all your lucid dreaming happens - the best part of sleep. In a session, you sit facing the Lucia Light, with your eyes closed. “A combination of flashing and constant light stimulates temporary EEG brainwave patterns that in turn help users achieve a hypnogogic trance. White light passes through your closed eyelids and to the pineal gland, which is stimulated to produce mind-activating hormones. The activation of this gland creates a completely unique visual experience that is entirely the result of your own consciousness” says Amitabh. You also have headphones on with music that is designed to guide you through the journey. Simply put - you’re having full power fractral, spectral DMT visuals and it’s all just a combination of you, the light and music.

The Lucia Light Therapy Machine

The floatation chamber, or Sensory Depreviation therapy, “involves lying in a pod with 10 inches of water containing a highly concentrated Epsom salt solution (600kg of magnesium sulphate) which creates the buoyancy for you to float effortlessly. The water is heated to your skin temperature so after a while the sensation of your body dissolves and you feel weightless. The pod is entirely sound and light proof which gives your brain the chance to disconnect from the constant bombardment of sensory input and enhance your ability to be cognitive, mindful and introspective” Amitabh explains. There is no other technology made available to people that can simulate these effects to this level. Make sure you listen to what he has to say closely, you do NOT want to get this water in your eyes or nose - it’s not fun. What it is, however, is a chance to simply feel weightless and enjoy the freedom of movement that comes with that weightlessness.
