This Cosy Bandra Home Could Double Up As A Hobbit's Abode

“It’s a dangerous business, Frodo, going out your door.”

Bilbo Baggins really knew what he was talking about, for most of us the hardest part of the day is bidding farewell to our beds and we’re sure that task becomes infinitely harder when you’re waking up in a home designed by the White Room Studio. These interior design wizards love working with natural elements to create spaces that are innovative and interesting to live in. As they put it best, ‘we consider architecture, of all the arts, as the one that most depends for its expressive power on rubbing up against the gritty constraints of every day life.’

One of their most enchanting creations is the Organic House in Bandra, a compact but perfectly proportioned space that is exactly what we imagined the coziest Hobbit hole to look like. It’s made up of two long vaults, one for the living space and the other for the master suite. At regular intervals are small connecting passages and archways that carve out space for the kitchen, bathrooms and cupboards. Through every arch is a new surprise and the maze-like design keeps you intrigued enough to follow through this seamlessly connected cavern. The light ceilings and furnishings against the warm wooden fixtures creates a Mediterranean air which is accentuated in the brightly tiled bathrooms.

This beautiful home is one of many that have come from The White Room Studio but it’s undoubtedly one of the favourites. It manages to be intimate while still being grand, modern but not sterile, elegant but quirky. Its effortless duality is something you rarely encounter in modern architecture and we cannot get enough of it.
