A Meat Eater’s Guide To Bangalore’s Best Steaks

For us deprived steak lovers in Bombay, we look to Bangalore like a diabetic kid looks at another munchkin greedily licking a face-sized lollipop – It is a look of jealousy, yearning and sadness. Yet, all of that angst gets washed away when we get to visit the city and pack steak into our gut like a Grizzly about to hibernate for the winter.

Bangalore has long been an oasis for beef eaters across the country. We mean, when you go to Bangalore and ask for a rare steak, they actually give you a rare steak because the chef knows how to make it bloody, but not undercooked to the point you have to have your spleen removed.

That’s why we decided to kickstart our country-wide series on steaks in the Southern city that really knows how to sear and sizzle.

Miller’s 46 has long been a Bangalore institution. With 16 different kinds of steaks and a boatload off other beef options they are experts at satisfying every and all red meat cravings. Our ‘must trys’ are the ‘Big Boy’ Texas T-Bone Steak and the Batter Fried Beef Steak.

The Texas T-Bone is a portion large enough to feed a small army and the Batter Fried Steak pays homage to the Texas style of Chicken Fried Steak. This style has been the downfall of many a non-beef eating Hindu in Texas as the misleading name gives people the impression they’re eating a Chicken Steak, instead of a steak fried like chicken. Miller’s 46 was smart enough to give a less confusing name to the dish that might give you heartburn, but will sure as hellfire make your heart burn with love.

It makes it harder to choose, but we seriously doubt diners can go wrong at the Grillhouse. We suggest the Tabasco Steak because Tabasco butter is heaven and is what makes real buffalo wings so tasty. For traditionalists, the New York Steak with Bearnaise Sauce is simply delicious. Also, if you have a serious appetite and for some crazy reason don’t want steak, go for the beef burrito… just do it.

Yet again a behemoth assortment of beautiful steaks - Connie’s not only has 15 different kinds of steaks, but is famous for their steak sauce. With 10 separate sauce options for beef steak, pork steak and chicken steak, one can become pretty overwhelmed with options. We recommend the Mushroom, Pepper and Thyme Sauce as well as the Spicy Tomato and Mustard Sauce. The Chateaubriand Steak and Silver Dollar steak are very popular at Portland, one can always see a neighboring table with either one of those babies. Their BBQ Chipotle Steak Sauce is also a hot ticket item. However, the Double Filet Mignon is super impressive. If you like your red meat with some red, hot spice go for the Blast Furnace.
