The world would be so gloomy without eggs, wouldn’t it? We wouldn’t be able to taste the magnificence of eggs Benedict, or have our hearts race along with the yolk (no, that’s not cholesterol) that runs out as we cut open a poached egg. Thankfully, in our world eggs truly come in every shape, size, and type. There are so many egg dishes that help you start your day right but we’ve decided to go back to the basics — the one with all the street cred and our personal favourite, Anda Bhurji. Below is a list of some of the best damn bhurjis around town; best enjoyed with a piping hot cup of chai, and your morning newspaper as you sit by watching the rain.

I. Anda Bhurji Roll at Mini Punjab

Where: Four outlets across the city

We love this dish so much that we’re covering it the second time. The flavours Mini Punjab blends into its eggs are nothing short of beautiful. If you don’t want your eggs to be super greasy (which you shouldn’t mind, really) you can always ask them to go easy on the oil to make it a little bit lighter. This dish isn’t on their regular menu, but if you ask them for it nicely, they know just what to do.

Cost: You won’t regret anything at INR 170.

II. Bharuchi Akuri at Ideal Corner

Where: 12/F/G Hornby View,, Gunbow Street, Fort

At this adorable, traditionally Parsi restaurant, eat one of the many blessings the Parsis have bestowed upon us in the form of food — the Bharuchi Akuri. This dish scrambles eggs with generous portions of cream, raisins, cashew nuts and salli. It wouldn’t hurt to complete this sinfully runny egg dish with a raspberry cola for the true, wholesome Parsi breakfast experience.

Cost: Have the best eggsperience ever at INR 90.

Where: Near Irla Jama Masjid, Mangal Jyot, Shop No. 7 C.D., CD Barfiwala Road, Andheri West.

Best eaten with pav, these eggs are served alongside garnished onions and tomatoes that provide just the right amount of enhancing the bhurji needs. You’re guaranteed quick service, so you won’t have to wait long to satisfy your cravings. Renowned for being one of the best late-night eateries in Ville Parle, they also deliver to Juhu and around Ville Parle.

Cost: Don’t wait any longer at INR 100.

IV. Butter Mysore Burji at Ganesh Bhavan

Where: 2, Juhu Beach, Juhu Tara Road, Juhu.

As the name suggests, this dish is particularly, wonderfully buttery. Served on a banana leaf, this dish is covered in chilli powder, so it’s definitely one to try if you’re looking for a spicy bhurji.

Cost: Scramble, spice and everything nice at INR 170.

V. Bhurjee at Kyani and Co.

Where: Ratan Heights, Dr D B Road, Opposite Navjivan Society.

Yes – we’ve found you another reason to visit one of the city’s oldest, finest Parsi restaurants! Kyani and Co.’s bhurji is one of the most popular items on their menu, and once you taste it, you’ll know why.

Cost: Almost teasing at just INR 35.

VI. Bhurji at Khurshid Pav Bhaji Centre

Where: Shop No 7, M A Road, Off S V Road, Below Andheri Flyover, Near M A School, Andheri West, Mumbai - 400058

Perfect for a late-night bhurji outing, the little stall in Andheri offers scrumptious scrambled eggs at a rapid speed. If you’re still hungry, you can always dive into the other egg and pav bhaji-based dishes that they pride themselves on.

Cost: At INR 60, we don’t know why you’re still waiting.

VI. Bhurji at Santacruz Railway Bhurji Wala

Where: Near Santa Cruz Station (West), Entrance of Hasnabad lane, next to the Skywalk.

Another way to curb your bhurji cravings at wee hours of the morning is this tiny stall in Santa Cruz that offers a simple yet delicious version of this dish.

Cost: Like all the other yummy stalls along this lane, no more than INR 60.

VII. Butter Egg Bhurji at Konkan Sagar

Where: 29, Nehru Rd, Sen Nagar, Santacruz East.

We’ve realised that the residents of Santa Cruz all share two, distinct characteristics – they really love their eggs, and they never sleep. Konkan Sagar is open till 4 in the morning, and is known for its quick service. Eat the best combination you can possibly find – eggs and butter – at this restaurant in Santa Cruz.

Cost: Make the most eggcellent choice at a mere INR 80 without pav and INR 100 with.
