For a city whose gastronomic delights cater to nearly each and every finicky palate, it’s hard to believe that we don’t have a legitimate food truck scene. Yes, Mumbai’s street food is our redeeming factor but sometimes, all you want is a cart with a good ol’ greasy burger that’ll only hurt your heart, not your wallet. Sometimes you catch a rare glimpse of these trucks at a festival or randomly in Andheri — it’s like a constant game of ‘Where’s Waldo’! Considering the constant battle these Food Truck owners fight for their licenses, it only made sense for them to put together their own little shindig at a permanent venue.

“At one of our meetings with the GMC Commissioner, he told us to just get on a private property and operate, instead of constantly fighting for licenses. It made sense, because then we could have our own space, thereby creating a daily festival of sorts,” says Roysten Misquitta, owner of the Bombay Food Truck Company. As a pioneering member of The Bombay Food Truck Society, he and other members of the society collectively decided to start up Mumbai’s first ever food truck park.

“Ahmedabad, Surat and Vadodara all have dedicated food truck parks. We’ve found a private property that can host about 12 trucks, whilst keeping space for several other forms of activity,” he explains. While his own Conti-American truck is bringing in an array of goodies like Calamari Fried Rolls, Steak, and Fried Wings, the park is also going to be home to Waffles, Exotic Mocktails, Ice Creams, a purely vegetarian truck and Punjabi food. There will be more signing on, and each of the trucks will be switching up their menu after six months.

Besides food though, the park aims to give artists their own space to exhibit work, a play space for kids, a corner for board games, and even a co-working office space! “People can even come read, after the monsoons. We’ll have a reading section set up, besides seating space,” continues Roysten.

The launch of the park is spread out over three days, from 14 to 16 July, 1 PM to 10 PM. And the best part? Once they’ve settled in properly, some of the food trucks are signing up with Zomato and Swiggy for late night deliveries up to 3 AM!

If you’re down for an evening full of delicious food and great entertainment, you should head to the Food Truck Park, located behind Candies, in Bandra. For more information, check out their event page, here.
