As 2017 marks 70 years of our independence, it also marks yet another year of our ‘chalta hai’ attitude. How many times have you had statistics thrown at you in an article so you feel terrible about your privilege, only to laugh at a cute dog video in the next minute? No one is pointing fingers as a majority of the population is guilty of doing the same — but here’s how you can help over this long weekend. #Mission1Million is an initiative put forward by the Robin Hood Army whose main aim is to serve our countrymen by battling our common enemy: Hunger.
They don’t accept any material donations, all they ask for is your time as they attempt to serve a million hungry citizens on both sides of the border. By bringing together the private sector and civil society in both India and Pakistan, their mission will be carried out in both countries on August 14 and August 15. As their website says, “The biggest act of freedom is serving your countrymen.”
Like most missions have certain objectives, it only makes sense for #Mission1Million to have some as well. The rules are basic: Make a difference by reaching out to the homeless, an orphanage, old age homes etc. Take your friends, family, corporate office or college along, and don’t forget to talk to these people and genuinely listen to them — make it more about the experience, than just the food. Lastly, don’t forget to wear green as you’re emulating Robin Hood.
