While we meet every Friday with nothing but joy as this means not having to put pants on for two whole days — sometimes social obligations state otherwise. Planning ahead for a weekend is hard work, more so with the multitude of options that are available. Unfortunately, we don’t have a Zomato or Swiggy to help us filter events out, which is why we decided to step in as your Weekend Warriors. While we can’t promise to be entirely unbiased, we can promise to offer you a hand-picked section of events we know you’ll enjoy.

For Whom Food Outweighs All Else

Hands up if you’re that friend who hates being on the dance floor with a 100 other people rubbing up against you. Fries (or whatever food you pick for the night) are all you really need, in the end. And of course, some beer. Don’t let the usual weekend plans get you down sonny, there’s a whole world of food waiting to be explored out there!

I. Beer and Burger Festival

Woodside Inn hasn’t let us down over the years, so when they throw in great weekend deals (Happy Hours!) in addition to their Beer and Burger Festival, there’s no way we’re missing out. It’s only on till the end of August though, so mark your calendars.

II. Doolally’s North-Eastern Cuisine Pop-Up

Considering this is the first time Doolally is experimenting with their food in a while, you don’t want to skip this one. Doolally’s Innovation Chef, Gayatri Desai just returned from a solo culinary expedition across the Northeast and will plate its delicious cuisine over five courses paired with special Northeast brews (Rice beer). You’ve got to register in advance though, so we’d get right to it, if we were you.

III. Tequila & Mezcal Deconstructed — A Masterclass

There are those who love their alcohol every weekend, and then there are those who truly appreciate their alcohol for every drop’s worth. If you fall into the latter half of that statement, we’ll see you at The Table’s masterclass hosted by The Vault’s Keshav Prakash.

IV. Versova’s Organic Farmer’s Market

While this isn’t really an event of sorts, it is still quite the expedition. Held on every Sunday irrespective of the seasons, the market sources all their produce from the Nashik/Pune/Mumbai belt. Everything sold at the market is completely organic, without chemicals or artificial pesticides.

When Music Is All You Need

Our readers know by now that Homegrown has a certain niche of music that we expose our audience to. We’ve expanded on that in this event selection though, to be fair. From vinyl sessions to an all-out Friday night kinda’ gig — take your pick.

I. FRWD 015 Ft. Kumail, Ape Machines, Chrms

You’re bound to find one of us at Antisocial, every weekend considering Anti is a venue that majorly pushes independent musicians forward. If you’re looking for a break from the commercial sounds everyone is accustomed to, look no further.

II. Unlyrics - A Classical Piano Concert by Emma Gillijam Tillu

Unwind with Emma’s tunes, as she takes you through the world of piano classics. A simple musical evening curated by Harkat that brings attention to western classical music, right from playful dances to romantic ballads.

III. KRUNK Presents RP BOO (USA) & Midland Sparks

It doesn’t matter if you’ve got two left feet on this dance floor — RP BOO is the name behind a fast dance style that stemmed from his crazy beats. Midland Sparks on the other hand, is bring the bass to this party. In short there’s no excuse, you’re going to want to move a leg or two at Bonobo.

IV. Bring Your Own Vinyl!

The Revolver Club in Mahim started a weekly series that encourages vinyl lovers to come together and share their collection — and we couldn’t be more thrilled. The music changes every week, depending on the community and their collection that week, so even if you don’t have a vinyl to share, you can still go just to lose yourself in a new genre of music.

The Cultural Hub Of Activity

You’re never too old for a good ol’ Arts & Crafts sesh, but don’t worry, this section isn’t just relegated to literal art. Culture is what we thrive on, and what India is known for! It’d be majorly disappointing if we didn’t have a section dedicated to those who’d rather spend their weekend learning a new skill or simply immersing themselves in art, whatsoever form it may come in.

I. Kitli Conversations - Mumbai Edition

In a world where texting is preferred to an actual face-to-face conversation, Kitli Conversations comes as a breath of fresh air. Here, people are encourage to skip the small talk and connect with each other though personal life experiences and powerful stories. The event will present five curated talks from Mumbai from people who are doing their best to make a change in this city of ours. Spend your weekend meeting the current movers and shakers of this city.

II. A Game of Thrones - Painting Party

While we’re still recovering from this week’s episode, artist Snehal Patil of Bombay Drawing Room is hosting a Game of Thrones (GoT) painting party at Raasta this Saturday. Explore your inner artist through abstract expressionist techniques and express all those pent up GoT stirred emotions you’ve had to keep in check all this time.

All art supplies will be provided for you at the venue, so all you need to do is book your place.

III. Bicycle Thieves - Best of Matterden

The iconic Matterden CFC, also known as Deepak Cinema, has grown to become an art hub drawing in like-minded art lovers from across the city. Their recent announcement has thrilled film lovers — every Sunday evening, for the next 26 months, they will be screening classic films for the public. This week they’ve got the 1948 Italian film Bicycle Thieves, directed by Vittorio De Sica, and with tickets at just INR 125, we couldn’t be happier.
