Cyclone Nisarga: Emergency Helplines To Call During Mumbai's Heavy Rains & Floods

With the current status of the rains in Mumbai and the entire East-central region of India, weather reports state the next 2 days will only see more rain due to the Cyclone Nisarga. Accompanied by strong winds, several officials are advising the city’s inhabitants to stay within their homes unless stepping out is an absolute necessity. Certain areas of Mumbai are already starting to flood to the point of waist-deep water, halting all public transport.

The BMC has taken to Twitter to highlight the severity of the cyclone with the following Dos & Don’ts to be kept in mind.

It is not a panic situation, but if you do face an emergency of any sort, the BMC control room is active and responding to all concerns related to the rains, flooding or the city in general. The following helplines will come in handy, during this onslaught of rain:

BMC (For Flooding, Water Logging, Potholes, General Aid Around The City)

  • 108 - Monsoon Helpline
  • 1916 - Civic Disaster During The Rains
  • 108 - Ambulance Service

Railway Emergency

  • 1512 - For any emergency.

  • 100 - Police Hotline.

For Any Emergency, if all else fails:

  • 112 - India’s single emergency number, much like USA’s 911.
