PM Modi Announces Janata Curfew & Important Guidelines For Coronavirus

The Prime Minister, Mr Narendra Modi addressed the nation via a live telecast on March 19. Here are some of the important points to be remembered from his speech:

I. Janta Curfew

The PMO has called for a ‘self-imposed’ curfew all over India on Sunday, March 22 for the duration of the day i.e. 7 AM - 9 PM. This is being done to heighten the emergency level due to the outbreak of the Coronavirus in India. With the number of infected cases increasing day by day, this move comes in at the right time to contain further spreading of the disease.

II. COVID-19 Economic Recovery Task Force

A special task force has been announced called the COVID-19 Economic Recovery Task Force.

The task force will be led by Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman.

III. Educate People

The PM urged everyone to call at least 10 people every day to spread accurate information about the Coronavirus. To keep yourself updated on all the facts of the case, click here.

IV. Regular Supply Of Essential Items

The citizens are advised not to panic-buy essential supplies as the government will ensure there is no scarcity of these commodities.

V. Non- Essential Elective Surgeries

All non-essential surgeries should be postponed. The main objective of all medical institutes should be to tackle the high-risk infected patients of the COVID-19.

The Prime Minister addresses the Nation on issues relating to COVID-19

On the eve of March 19, the Indian Government issued a set of guidelines which are to be followed by Indian Citizens amidst the outbreak of the pandemic of Coronavirus. The guidelines as reported by journalist and TV news anchor Faye D’Souza on Instagram -

I. State Governments have to issue appropriate directions so that senior citizens (65 years and above) - other than those who require medical assistance - are advised to stay at home.

II. Children below the age of 10 are advised to stay indoors.

III. State Government to enforce the work-from-home model for employees of all private organisations, except those in emergency services like Law Enforcement Agencies, Medical Emergency Services, Fire Department etc.

IV. The Indian Railways and Civil Aviation Services shall suspend concessional travel - except for students, patients and people with disabilities.

V. NO scheduled international commercial passengers flights will be allowed to land in India from March 22 for one week.
