I. US MEDIA WELCOME SATYA NADELLA AS MICROSOFT’S NEW CHIEF India-born Satya Nadella was welcomed by the American media as the CEO of Microsoft, noting that the technical expert has a considerable responsibility ahead of him. Now considered to be the most powerful Indian- American chief executive in the IT Sector, the media was quick to reflect on the increasing influence of this small ethnic community in the country.

SOCHI WINTER OLYMPICS OPEN WITH RING MALFUNCTION After suffering reports of ‘appalling conditions’ and unfinished facilities, the Winter Olympics opening ceremony endured a major goof up minutes after it had begun – when a snowflake designed to represent the fifth Olympic ring failed to show itself.

III. NARENDRA MODI ACCUSES CONGRESS OF SIDELINING PRANAB MUKHERJEE
In a scathing rally in West Bengal, Narendra Modi attacks the Left parties and the Third Front, saying they will make India a third rate country. He also continued to accuse the Congress of denying Pranab Mukherjee, the current President, the PM post in 2004, even stating that he “deserved” the chair.

IV. GENERAL K N BHATT ADMITS HE WAS NOT CONSULTED ON THE JAN LOKPAL BILL
Former Additional Solicitor General K N Bhatt confessed he was not consulted on the Jan Lokpal Bill but only on the validity of some rules. Bhatt was reacting to Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal's statement that disclosed the government had taken opinion of four lawyers including Bhatt and all of them were of the view that the Home Ministry order was "unconstitutional".

V. RAHUL GANDHI, ARVIND KERJIWAL JOIN STUDENT PROTESTS AGAINST DEATH OF NIDO TANIAM

Arvind Kerjiwal joined students from the North-East in a 'dharna' to protest against the death of Nido Taniam, a 20-year-old from Arunachal Pradesh, who died after he was beaten to death by a group of men in a market. Congress vice-president Rahul Gandhi also met the student protesters and promised that justice will be delivered for Nido.  "What happened to Nido is totally unacceptable," said Mr Gandhi.

VI. PHILIP SEYMOUR HOFFMAN DIES OF HEROIN OVERDOSE
Revered actor Philip Seymour Hoffman was found dead in his apartment from an apparent heroin overdose. The actor, and father of three children, was found lying unconscious with a syringe in his arm by his friend. The Academy award winning actor had trouble with drugs early on his career, and confessed he entered himself into rehab to get some help.

VII. DYLAN FARROW ACCUSES WOODY ALLEN OF SEXUAL ABUSE
In an open letter to the New York Times, daughter of Mia Farrow, Dylan Farrow confesses of being sexually assaulted by the filmmaker Woody Allen when she was just seven years old in an attic at her mother’s Connecticut home. Allen responded back saying Dylan had been "used as a pawn for revenge" against him by her mother.

India's foreign exchange (forex) reserves decreased by $1.16 billion to $291.07 billion for the week ended Jan 31, Reserve Bank of India (RBI) data showed. The value of India's gold reserves grew by $351.2 million at $20.07 billion.

IX. EARTH’S VIEW FROM MARS POSTED ON TWITTER

NASA's Curiosity rover has taken a photograph of Earth from the surface of Mars, showing what our planet looks like from 100 million miles away. The miniscule dot created a strong reaction on Twitter, which NASA has taken to anthropomorphizing, with the rover tweeting on Thursday: "Look Back in Wonder... My 1st picture of Earth from the surface of Mars."

X. SPANISH PRINCESS TESTIFIES IN COURT

Spain's Princess Cristina was questioned by a judge on Saturday in a corruption case that has engendered a surge of public anger over graft among the ruling class and discontent with the royal family. This is the first time that a Spanish royal has been summoned in a criminal proceeding since the monarchy was restored in 1975 following the death of Dictator Francisco Franco
