Frostbite's New Collection Channels The Cultural Essence Of Mumbai

Homegrown Staff

'Grills' are a type of mouth accessory that have come to occupy a particularly unique place across pop cultural and creative communities, in the way way that it is a marker of both personal expression, community affiliation and individual idenity. A grill consists of of a gold or silver removable mouth attachment (similar to a mouthgaurd) that's inlaid with jewellery and precious stones such as diamonds. The accessory was first popularized by hip-hop subcultures but now finds itself a somewhat ubiquitous fixture across global street culture.

'Frostbite', is a homegrown brand that's aiming to bring India's distinct heritage, regional signifiers, and cultural motifs to both their grills and more traditional forms of jewellery. In the process, they hope to encourage more and more Indians to adopt their products as an everyday accessory, rather than a novelty that's reserved for rappers and creatives. Their latest collection, 'Motifs of Mumbai', attempts to imbibe their accessories with the essence of India's 'Maximum City'. Here are some pictures from the collection:
