Grace - A Photo Story Celebrating The Sensitive Side Of Masculinity.

Denise Quadros

The brewing climate of Feminism running rampant in the air, brings us to also question the sentient challenges that the masculine community often endures. If you do happen to ponder over it, it really does impinge on one’s conscience – What really lies under all that male bravado? To our fortuity Archisman Misra, a New Delhi based photographer brings to life and exemplifies ‘Grace’. A photography project that yearns to showcase the tender and the graceful nuances that are often lost in transition or often suppressed to portray a much more callous, macho machismo.

It pays heed to the unconscious mind and psychosomatic processes that often go unnoticed. The repressed feelings and the constant need to project male chauvinism. The aesthetic of Archisman’s piece ‘Grace’ thus exudes the poignant yet perceptive ways in which these emotions have major roles to play in the making of a boy, that transcend somatic state. Engaging in his artistic endeavours Archisman celebrates and embraces these repressed emotions.

Tell us about your project.

‘Grace’ is an attempt to redefine how masculinity is viewed by society. It seeks to show the graceful nuances that exist in the midst of all things toxic that masculinity brings. Its an exploration of self-love, intimacy and grace, something that is mostly missing from our definition of masculinity.

‘HG loves’ the contrasts and the textures used to showcase depth of emotion. That further adds to the authenticity.

Archisman Misra's 'Grace' showcases the tender and vulnerable side of masculinity.

What are some of your biggest inspirations over the years of your artistic career?

My inspirations include Sally Mann, Annie Leibovitz, Jessica Walsh, Paula Scher and William Klein.

Describe your creative process and the purpose with which you create.

My creative process completely revolves around the story and how it is told. It has always been the centrepiece of my photographs or videos. I believe that if you have your story on point it is much easier to fit the other pieces into the puzzle.

It also exemplifies a much more intimate look on intimacy, self-love and grace.
