‘Chor’ by Indo Warehouse and Rashmeet Kaur blends Indo House, Punjabi folk, and Sufi-inspired storytelling into a dark, cinematic track centred on longing, emotional self-preservation, and the fear of losing oneself in love. Built collaboratively by Rashmeet and Indo Warehouse founders Kahani and Kunal Merchant, the release also expands the fictional world surrounding Indo Warehouse’s music through the story of a mysterious theft, a missing raag manuscript, and a woman named Sahar whose voice becomes tied to the legend of a thief.
Indo Warehouse and Rashmeet Kaur have come together for ‘Chor,’ a new single that leans into the darker, moodier edges of Indo House while pulling from Punjabi folk and Sufi storytelling. Built around hypnotic percussion and cinematic production, the track moves like a monsoon-night story unfolding through crowded lanes and half-heard rumours.
‘Chor,’ which translates to ‘thief,’ is centred around longing, desire, and emotional self-preservation. The song follows the idea of someone capable of stealing your heart, while also holding onto the instinct to protect yourself from disappearing completely into love. The track takes inspiration from an original story created by Indo Warehouse about a mysterious theft during the monsoon season and a missing page from an ancient raag manuscript.
This release also marks an important moment for Indo Warehouse founders Kahani and Kunal Merchant, who are releasing music together as artists under the Indo Warehouse name for the first time, separate from their work as a label, bringing their own creative voice into the world they have spent years building. Instead of inviting Rashmeet as a guest feature, the song was developed collaboratively from the ground up, with the production, atmosphere, and vocals shaping the emotional direction together.
“Over the last few years, we’ve been thinking deeply about how to create music that feels connected to our heritage without feeling trapped by nostalgia.”Kahani, Indo Warehouse
Speaking about the song, Rashmeet Kaur said, “Chor is a dark, emotionally layered song that feels like a whisper spreading through every street and alley. There’s a ‘chor’ out there — someone capable of stealing your heart.” She added that the track also carries “the reminder not to lose yourself blindly in love — to give your heart to someone truly worthy of it.” Kahani described the collaboration as something that felt natural from the beginning. “With Rashmeet, it never felt like we were combining separate worlds. It felt like we were discovering a shared language together,” he said.
The release also opens the door to a larger fictional world Indo Warehouse is building around its music. The story tied to 'Chor' follows Sahar, a young woman who steals a forbidden page from an ancient raag manuscript and sings it alone in the dark for the first time in generations, while the city around her becomes obsessed with the mystery of the thief.
