Trespass, But Don’t Get Caught. Follow, But Don’t Be Followed.

Mandovi Menon

The young woman in a neon sports bra and sparkling white Air Maxes wants to steal a peaceful moment in the strangest way. She’s halfway through the task of breaking into a solitary fishing boat, bobbing quietly in a small dock in the North of Goa. Her two fellow explorers are happy to follow, presumably to share in some of the trouble they’re secretly hoping to cook up. The lack of super sized fringing or neon-flowered bikinis are conspicuous in their absence. As conspicuous as the presence of their obvious desire to incite malfunctions in the social matrix of the (largely) depraved beach town.

So despite the temptation to give in to the all-night affairs or the same old beach route, we followed them surveillance-style to see another side of Goa as they sported Nike’s equally convention-defying Air Maxes with casual revelry. From cliff-sides to fishing villages and sunrises to sunsets, voyeurism has never been quite as enticing when following personalities as vibrant as Paloma Monnappa, Julian Burkhadt and Spiro Grana on their mission to find new ways to play.

New years are for new adventures. Trespass, but don’t get caught. Follow but don’t get followed.
