There’s a movement stirring, a rebellion brewing, a homecoming is underway, and there’s no time like the present. On March 18th, it’s all culminating in a one-day celebration of bleeding edge art, fashion and music–a space dedicated solely to sneaker and street culture in India. A space we’re calling HGStreet.
Pivotal moments started dotting India’s lifestyle and culture landscape with surprising frequency–a growing number of skate parks, the rise of the Superstars, Delhi’s VegNonVeg for the veritable sneakerhead, the explosion of gully hip hop, fresh streetwear brands that challenged the status quo of a flailing fashion industry, and the fact that mainstream media was finally starting to listen to these underrepresented voices over the last few years. This rapid emergence and intermingling of sub-cultures (with a uniquely Indian identity) have always been something we’ve championed as Homegrown, and now, we’re extremely excited and proud to invite you to find your place in this thriving new ecosystem.
Delhi’s Dhan Mill compound will set the stage for #HGStreet this March, bringing together the best of local and international sneaker culture, hip-hop lifestyle, streetwear fashion, street art, skateboarding, music, food and straight up creativity and innovation. With this first edition, we’re creating a much-needed space for people of all backgrounds who wear their hustle on their sleeves, to call home. A place where your authenticity and originality can stand up and be counted amongst the icons who represent this brave new world, best. Think a no-holds barred display of sneaker culture, native streetwear label showcases, fashion shows in alleyways, custom-painted skate ramps, cutting-edge brand labs, live art and installations, rapper hunt contests, breakdance battles, film and documentary screenings, the best local and international musical talent puppeteering exclusive after-parties, and the fashion-forward faces of the future.
This is no accidental mecca of all things up-and-coming. This is a full-blown celebration of every Indian sub-culture that’s dared to keep things fresh. Your part in all of this? Cop, shop, drop, interact, inspire, be inspired, kick out and kick back at this 14-hour celebration of distinctively (and wonderfully) Indian sneaker and street culture.
Carefully curated and conceptualised with a lot of thought (and even more love), the #HGStreet experience will include sneaker brand labs, panels and talks, fashion shows, pop-up shops, photo exhibitions and four after-parties with 14 Hours of simultaneous programming ranging from hip-hop, grime, house and techno to everything in between. The world’s largest and oldest traveling sneaker exhibit comes to India for the first time ever at HGStreet, partnering with PUMA to celebrate 50 years of the iconic Puma Suede, featuring over 500 rare, vintage, and limited edition sneakers. Expect drops, cops, interactive experiences and super fresh collaborations at brand labs, in addition to leading sneaker brand showcases from adidas to Puma.
Tune into straight up conversations around sneaker and street culture, by and for the people who represent it best. We’ve got ‘Sneaker Pimps,’ the world’s largest and oldest traveling sneaker exhibit making its stop in India for the first time ever, partnering with PUMA to celebrate 50 years of the iconic Puma Suede featuring 500+ rare, vintage, and limited edition sneakers.
