Bangalore, Visit This Pop-Up On Saturday To Sample Hemp Delicacies

Shireen Jamooji

When you think hemp, there are certain illicit connotations that spring to mind, however what it really is, is one of India’s most misunderstood and tragically underused crops. There are many Indian companies that have realised the potential of hemp and are trying to reintegrate hemp-based products into mainstream India, one of the leaders of this movement are Wildleaf, a Bangalore-based initiative that is dedicated to the creation and popularisation of hemp in daily life.

They focus primarily on replacing harmful non-biodegradable products with hemp and eco-friendy alternatives and their long term goal include creating a market for hemp based textile, construction, shelters, and lifestyle products. Aside from the environmental benefits, another motive for promoting hemp goods is the economic viabilty for India’s farmers. Hemp is a tricycle crop which means that there are three periods in which farmers can reap and profit from their yield, much more than most normal cash crops.

It’s considered a wonder crop because of its dynamic and versatile properties, Wildleaf has recognised this potential and is celebrating it in all its diverse glory at their event Hemp Today, Hemp Tomorrow. On Saturday October 7, at Fava in UB City they’ll be hosting an event in which they display their full array of hemp products, including their exclusive range of hemp-flavoured delicacies including hemp mylk, cheese, brownies and cookies.

They’ll be focusing on spreading awareness on how hemp seed is a super food and how it can help with reaching daily nutritional requirements. They believe that it’s not about how much you eat but the quality of the food you eat. Wildleaf intends to bring back what has always been there but neglected due to lack of knowledge and ignorance. This event is sure to be an eye-opener as well as a treat for the tastebuds, so if you’re ready to embrace the hemp revolution, this is where you should be this Saturday.
