Experience Off-Roading In India With Roadhouse’s Solar-Powered Camper Vans

Samyukhtha Sunil

When Chennai-based travel enthusiast Sidharth Verman realised the difficulties of off-roading in India, he knew he wanted to build a solution that would make the activity seamless and sustainable for the community and its future in India. Hence began a long-drawn journey of experimentation and exploration which involved delving deep into an unchartered territory of India’s travel industry.

Inspired by Europe’s better-developed camper van culture, Verman built ‘Roadhouse’, a campervan rental service that facilitates seamless travel and off-road experiences across lesser explored terrain in the country.

Between 2020 and 2021, Verman purchased a van and worked with a local architect to convert it into a travel-friendly camper equipped with sustainable machinery that makes the experience eco-friendly and conscious at the same time.

The van is fully equipped with a bathroom, a kitchenette, a bed and a lounging area with plenty of storage space. Added to this, the van is entirely solar-powered and an additional storage battery is installed to store excess power which can be later used during monsoons or in areas where the solar panels run out of charge.

Currently, Roadhouse rents out one rental van which can be hired on a daily or weekly basis.

You can rent one out via Instagram here.
