First Indian Global Ambassador For L'Oreal Paris, Nidhi Sunil Is The New Face Of Beauty

Homegrown Staff

A Board member of the Invisible Girl Project and a former environmental attorney, Indian model, Nidhi Sunil made history today as L’Oreal Paris’s first Indian global ambassador.

Born and brought up in Kerala, Sunil made her acting debut in Gangoobai in 2013, and later starred in Kaash (2015). As a model, she has fronted campaigns for Garnier and The Gap and has appeared in the pages of Italian Vogue and GQ.

“From lawyer to model, actress to activist, Nidhi uses her energy to speak out against colorism and gendercide and to campaign for girls to be as valued as much as boys,” L’Oreal Global Brand President Delphine Viguier-Hovasse said in a statement.

Nidhi says that growing up in India as someone with a dark skin tone was very revealing as it gave her an impeccable insight into the colour bias in Indian society, while shaping her perception on beauty.

“Confronting perspectives on beauty and other people’s perceptions on how they view you is obviously horrific because it shapes your sense of self-worth and self-esteem,” said Sunil.

As someone who has experienced years of judgement due to harsh beauty standards in India, Nidhi Sunil wants to advocate for authentically diverse casting in the entertainment industry, for a more inclusive workplace culture.
