As Kerala experiences the worst floods it has seen the last 100 years, the North East of the country has been reeling under heavy rains as well and the situation is growing more grim each day. Nagaland has been encountering heavy rainfall since July that has caused floods and landslides in multiple areas resulting in at least 12 fatalities. In Assam, the floods have affected more than 10 lakh people and as per reports, the death toll has increased to over 40.

Assam and Arunachal Pradesh have been put on high-alert post warnings from China regarding rising water levels of Tsangpo River, which enters India as Siang, flows through Arunachal Pradesh and is one of the three rivers that form the Brahmaputra in Dibrugarh district, Assam. Hundreds are fleeing their home in search for safety. In Meghalaya, disaster management teams have been deployed and kept ready in West Garo Hills, North Garo Hills and South West Garo Hills in preparation for any possible emergency. 225 animals have lost their lives so far at Kaziranga National Park.

Once again, we need to come together and help those affected by the floods in whatever way we can.
