Homegrown Staff

There is a homecoming we simply can’t wait for. Legendary Chef Gaggan Anand’s Bangkok based restaurant Gaggan that ranks as number one on Asia’s 50 Best Restaurants list, might we add that it’s held this position for three consecutive years, is coming to India for a pop up tour! Hosted by the Taj Group Of Hotels in Mumbai, Delhi, Bangalore and Chennai, this culinary experience will give you a rare chance to enlighten your taste buds with Chef Gaggan’s experimental Indian dishes, known to have amazed people the world over.

Gaggan, who calls his food progressive Indiancreates dishes that are modern takes on Indian classics -often with comical and incomprehensible twists; the edible “plastic” bag of nuts made with translucent rice paper, ‘Magic Mushroom’; a gorgeous, psilocybin-free dish featuring forest mushrooms in the shape of a log with edible “soil” and a mini-garden or the more macabre, ‘Who Killed The Goat?’; a free-range, sous-vide grilled lamb chop accompanied by almond saffron oil that’s been splashed across the plate to look like streaks of blood.

A single seat to dine with Chef Gaggan, who has cooked for stalwarts like former Presidents Bill Clinton and Abdul Kalam, will cost you a not so humble INR 19,500. While it may seem a tad bit out of one’s ordinary dinner budget, let us remind you that this is no ordinary dinner. Reservations at their restaurant in Bangkok need to be made at least a month in advance, and even that isn’t a confirmation. Additionally, Gaggan has announced that he will be shutting down in 2020, as he plans to relocate to Japan and start his new venture there. In all its likelihood, this may be your last chance to taste this magic.

This tour marks a rather special place in the gastronomical landscape that makes up India. Curiosity sits at the tip of the Indian palate today, allowing for more and more world-class chefs to bring their experiments home to us. If your wallets can take that dent and still survive the month then don’t deny yourself this culinary treat.
