The article looks at Gorillaz’s first-ever India tour, briefly outlining the project’s legacy as a virtual band created by Damon Albarn and Jamie Hewlett, before focusing on their upcoming performances in Bengaluru and Mumbai in 2027. It also highlights their latest album 'The Mountain', which continues their collaborative, cross-cultural approach with contributions from artists like Asha Bhosle and Anoushka Shankar, framing the tour as an extension of their global, genre-blending practice.

Gorillaz are finally coming to India. After more than two decades of reshaping global pop as a virtual band, the project created by Damon Albarn and Jamie Hewlett is set to perform live in the country for the first time early next year.

Formed in 1998, Gorillaz exists as a virtual band made up of animated members — 2D, Murdoc Niccals, Noodle, and Russel Hobbs — while Damon Albarn leads the music through an evolving roster of collaborators. Their sound has consistently moved across hip-hop, electronic, dub, pop, and alternative, built on a model that prioritises collaboration and visual storytelling as much as the music itself. Over the years, the band has become one of the most successful and influential virtual acts globally, known for redefining how music, animation, and live performance intersect.

Their India tour follows their ninth studio album The Mountain, released in February 2026 via their independent label KONG. The record continues their collaborative approach, featuring artists from across the world, including Indian musicians such as Asha Bhosle, Anoushka Shankar, Ajay Prasanna, Asha Puthli, and Amaan & Ayaan Ali Bangash. Built across multiple cities and languages, the album extends Gorillaz’s long-standing interest in cross-cultural sound and global exchange.

“It has been and remains a dream of mine to bring Gorillaz in all its technicolour glory to India. It’s just the beginning and I truly look forward to the experience.”
Damon Albarn

Gorillaz will perform in Bengaluru on January 23, 2027, and in Mumbai on January 27, 2027. The shows are expected to feature the full live band along with guest performers, translating their animated world into a large-scale stage production. Tickets for The Mountain Tour will be available exclusively on the District app. The pre-sale access opens on April 13, 2026, at 1 PM IST and runs until April 18, followed by general sales going live at 2 PM IST on April 18.
