#HGDisrobed: Skye Arundhati Thomas Interviews Transfeminine Artist Alok Vaid-Menon

Homegrown Staff

As more and more people step out of the shadows, the LGBTQI community can hardly be considered a minority anymore. Yet in our own country, Section 377 continues to exist. Where does criminalising the sexual orientation of a sizeable Indian community stand when it comes to our Constitutional rights of freedom, equality and right against exploitation? It is precisely because of such hypocrisies that continuously addressing, promoting and pushing the boundaries of India’s queer narrative is so important.

Carrying forth this conversation is writer and editor, Skye Arundhati Thomas, who will today sit down with non-binary, transfeminine writer, poet and performance artist, Alok Vaid-Menon in a dedicated Facebook Live segment hosted by us at Homegrown. A powerhouse of talent, Alok has travelled the world as a dynamic and formidable voice of the movement, captivating audiences with issues of gender, social justice, trans politics and sexuality in today’s globalised-yet predominantly traditional world, when it comes to aspects of alternative sexualities and gender.

Alok, who uses the pronouns ‘they’ and ‘them,’ has long contended the prevailing heteronormative standards of society, and today, you can be a part of this movement as we kick off our latest online series ‘Homegrown Disrobed.’ Join Alok for our first Facebook Live episode at 4.30 PM that’s open to fans, critics, and interested people alike, for an unfiltered conversation in real time. No questions or dialogue will be censored.
