#HGSessions || Zokhuma

Mumbai-based Zokhuma (Arman Menzies) has been infiltrating the clogged arteries of our alternative music networks like the perfect anti-coagulant. Bringing with him years of onstage musical experience as a guitarist for Goddess Gagged — cult progressive metal messiahs, the 21-year-old is anything but a show off. Opting for all the spaces between instead, his own soundscapes have been leaning towards a far more futuristic, minimal vibe that we can’t get enough of. Reminiscent of the kind of progression we’ve been aching to see, we’re hoping he inspires many more young guns to bite the bullet and stay true to themselves. One wave just isn’t big enough for all of us.

We got him to curate our very first #HGSessions and over the course of an hour, Zokhuma creates the kind of atmospheric beauty you’d be happy to have on at just about any time. With shout outs to both global improvisational electronica pioneers like Bonobo & Four Tet as well as more indigenous talents (think Big City & Zokhuma bootlegs itself) this playlist is a journey that will widen the voids even while filling them out.

Here’s what he had to say about it:“This mix is the kind of music I would want playing in the background all day while I go about my day or am just chilling because it simultaneously allows me to get really into them. Most of the featured artists are producers I take a lot of influence from Four tet, Tycho, Audio Dope, Jamie Xx, Gold panda, etc. I’ve thrown in 3 of my own songs as well for your listening pleasure. Hope you enjoy it.”
