#HGPlaylist 11: Sanaya 'Sandunes' Ardeshir

Homegrown Staff

Sanaya Ardeshir (aka Sandunes) has been the apple of our usually roving eye since our earliest days. Partly because we have a long and indelible personal history and partly because she’s a rare breed of artist even in the country’s independent circuit which basically thrives on every participant’s USPs. She’s made up of an enviable mix of pure, raw talent and the kind of dedication that would put most people to shame; besides which she shuns mediocrity at every level. This isn’t done out of judgement, it’s simply done out of a desire for perfection that usually results in the kind of quality we wish more people would strive for.
Either way, that’s enough gushing from our side. We coerced the budding young producer to share her own HG-formatted playlist with us in light of her big gig at BRISKO tonight (alongside other family favourites, Moniker & Nanok) as well as the Remix EP that she’s releasing later today as well and she had a few snippets to share with us about both.

On tonight’s set…
”This Friday, I’m employing some new hardware in my live set - something I haven’t used before. Someone recently urged me to “play songs people know”, which I can’t really dolive, so instead, I’ve worked out some on-the-fly remixes that I’m going to be playing live. And hinting at the familiar while keeping it all original.”

On her Remix EP…
”Ever Bridge Remixed” is a collection of remixes off Sandunes’ earlier release of 2013.The release features works by artists from within the region.

With each one having explored starkly different remix avenues-- from industrial/cinematic, to straight-up dance floor versions, the EP looks at Ever Bridge through an entirely new lens.”
”Contributing artists include: Frame/Frame, Sickflip, Nanok, When Panda’s Attack, Paralights and Pippin. The remix EP is an extension of the collaborative nature of the Ever Bridge, which was an art-music project in itself, completing the cycle of its existence before the release of my upcoming ‘Slybounce EP’ in April this year.”
You can stream the REMIX EP on Mumbai Boss.

II. When you kind of wish you were Thomas Newman.

III. When you kinda wanna cry a little about the beauty of life itself.

IV. When you want to dim the lights a tad, but faff in the kitchen working on dinner.

V. Now you’ve got company and having some’a this in the background floats everyone’s boat.

VI. Did someone say disco?

VII. And finally, lights out!
