How NIMAI’s ‘Promise Bangle’ Is Helping Acid Attack Survivors

Although clothing is seen as a basic necessity for humans, the concept of fashion is one that is constantly evolving over time. Fashion has come a long way from its functional origins and is now interwoven in the cultural fabric of society as a medium of expression and identity. For Delhi-based jewellery brand NIMAI, accessories can also play an integral part in this narrative. Their goal is to harness innovative techniques, curious mediums and the insight of contemporary Indian artists to further this vision. Since its inception, NIMAI has envisioned a space where jewellery is more than just an ornament to be flaunted but is viewed, instead, as a catalyst of hope, change and promise. And their first in-house product aligns perfectly with this thought and vision.

The promise is a fashion-forward bangle that comes engraved with the word ‘Promise’ and has a secret compartment to store a handwritten vow. From you, to you – a constant reminder to stay true to yourself. A vow maybe a very theoretical concept but is undoubtedly a very powerful one. Giving purpose to this three-letter word, NIMAI collaborated with Lakshmi Agarwal, an acid attack survivor to shape their first public promise. Attacked at the age of 15, she is not a victim but a fighter. While one would expect her to fall under the realities of what life threw her way, Lakshmi rose like a phoenix and created a better and much stronger life for herself. She has encouraged many survivors to break their silence on the misfortunes of acid attack and take a stand.

“The more time I spend with her, the more I realize that beauty is truly deep within. Today, she is a friend, a role model and a woman who has given purpose to NIMAI,” says, Pooja Roy Yadav, Founder and CEO of NIMAI. With this collaboration, NIMAI promises Lakshmi a beautiful life by contributing 3% of the sales to aid in her dreams of a much brighter future.

NIMAI also plans to launch a design cell where numerous in-house jewellery collections will be unveiled. The idea is to create a global platform which supports and the company believes in encouraging local artisans to engage and collaborate with each other and create local designs that will appeal to the global customer.

“One can bring about the change they wish to see if we can fulfil our own promises” To make a promise to yourself and stand true to it, check out the PROMISE bangle here or at their flagship store in Shahpurjat Village, New Delhi. Available in Gold and Rose Gold variants, these bangles are shipped in beautiful gift-ready boxes as well.
