DrivoJoy: Bengaluru's Bike Mechanics Come To Your Doorstep

Homegrown Staff

Bengaluru, the South Indian city that fosters many of the nation’s start-ups, has recently seen an influx in doorstep-service oriented companies. Out of all the wonderfully creative services being offered, one service has come as a god-send to bikers — a biker-centric mechanic platform. Whether it’s a tune up, a wash or punctured tire a DrivoJoy mechanic will come to your location and sort out your two wheeler issue.

So no more wheeling your bike a kilometer, desperately hunting for a mechanic while you sweat like a spartan slave. And even if you just want a tune up at home, instead of battling Bengaluru traffic on your time off, it’s estimated at 30 percent lesser the cost compared to traditional service centres. So bikers, you can actually save money by being lazy, bravo!

We decided to reach out to DrivoJoy’s head honchos Aman Singhal CEO and co-founder and Vishwanath Kollapudi COO and co-founder to see how these ex-Ola and ex-Paypal employees were being treated by the startup lifestyle. “Corporates involve a bunch of stakeholders for arriving at basic business decisions. It’s quite the opposite while running a start-up. The start-up journey for us so far has been an exciting roller coaster ride,” comment the founders.

This duo is redefining the conception of India’s two-wheeler mechanics, adding layers of efficiency and transparency to the process of going to the mechanic, or in this case the mechanic coming to you. Vishwanath admits, “prior to DrivoJoy, when I’d get my bike repaired or serviced, I would often just accept whatever the mechanic told me regarding the problems with my vehicle, but getting on the other side has taught us the nitty-gritty of bike repair and maintenance.”

In order to jump that hurdle DrivoJoy sources expert mechanics and works to empower them with requisite training in soft skills, customer interaction, becoming more tech savvy, education and also aiding them in vehicular financing. As Aman puts it, Indian mechanics are, “perceived as service providers who are infamous for ripping customers off by suggesting multiple amendments to their vehicles. We’re keen on changing this perception.”

And as what for the future holds for these two, well, it isn’t their first rodeo, or as they say it, “we’re in business for the long haul.” DrivoJoy’s prerogative is to build a steady customer base, focusing on quality and sustainability, instead of chasing hyper growth like so many others. Nevertheless, let’s not forget they are a mobile garage, making expansion a lot easier without the concern of a physical outlet in this vast country of two-wheeler riders.

It looks like Hyderabad will be the next city graced with the DrivoJoy’s travelling mechanics, so Hyderabadis, it might be time to let the professionals at DrivoJoy give your bike that wash you promised you’d take care of last July.
