For the past 70 years, the British Council through its workshops, educational programs, and scholarships, has worked towards creating an atmosphere that is conducive to cultural exchange between India and the UK. And to further this motto of creating a unique cross-cultural ecosystem that can benefit the largest youth population in the world, the British Council, along with Homegrown, is organising an evening of live performance by Birmingham-born, Midlands-raised Eva Lazarus.
Big voice, big bass and big hair is what Singer and MC Eva Lazarus is all about. Her musical flavours span across genres from Reggae to Hip Hop, DnB to Jungle and beyond. She has tirelessly smashed through festivals across the globe including Glastonbury, Soundwave, BoomBap, Outlook and an epic show at BoomTown to a crowd of 16,000 plus people alongside Mungos Hifi. Eva & her crew (backing vocalists ‘The Afronaughts’ and DJ Chris Munky) are always ready to nice up your dance whether it’s a rave, a club, a festival, boat, pyramid, jungle or an aircraft hangar.
As a part of her three-day tour of Mumbai, to connect and interact with like-minded individuals in the city, Eva Lazarus along with her DJ Chris Munky will be performing at Flea Bazaar Cafe in Lower Parel. Mumbai-based musician and rapper Tienas, who is a breath of fresh air as far as the city’s hip-hop community is concerned, will be the opening act before the duo takes over the stage. Expect to discover or reacquaint yourself with Tienas’ Nujabes-inspired sonic aesthetic which hasn’t been seen before in a region dominated by ‘gully rap’.
The performances will begin at 9 pm on Thursday. The event is free and open to everyone. Eva’s performance will also mark the announcement of British Council India bringing its leading music conference and skill building platform Selector Pro for the first time in India at Homegrown’s #MumbaiMusicWeek - that will take place in January 2019.
A four-day long showcase on workshops, panels, and conferences by leading individuals belonging to the music industry in India and UK, British Council’s ‘Selector Pro’ is a professional development forum for musicians and music producers alike. And its 3-day intensive program for #MumbaiMusicWeek will be revealed on the day of the event.
The event is being held in collaboration with sound partner Bajao, mobility partner Zoomcar, and photo partner FujiFilm.
