A bike that charges faster than a smartphone?
A bike that sits right between an electric bicycle and entry-level electric scooter and doesn’t require a license or registration?
A bike that’s almost entirely homegrown?
And we are being a hundred per cent honest with you?
Yes to all!
Pi-Mo, a sustainable utility e-bike, has recently been launched by Pi-Beam, an IIT Madras-Incubated start-up the brainchild of alum, Visakh Sasikumar.
Says Pi-Beam, “Pi-Mo charges in less time than your smartphone and takes you a whopping 50 km at a safe speed of 25 kmph, making it ideal for personal short-distance travel. No driver’s license or registration required — just unlock and glide.” The battery-operated vehicle which offers a feature called ‘Battery Swapping’ through which a drained battery can be exchanged for a fully charged one at designated locations is priced at Rs. 30, 000. 90% of its components, including the batteries and controllers, are manufactured in India. It also comes with a swing arm mechanism and dual shock absorbers.
The Hindu reports, “The start-up has already gained over 100 initial customers within weeks of opening preorders for Pi-Mo. Pi Beam aims to sell 10,000 vehicles by the end of the financial year 2021-22.”
