R&B Powerhouse Anderson .Paak To Perform In India Early Next Year

Homegrown Staff

Music is a divisive topic at the best of times with every personal taste at odds with the next. But it’s universally agreed that one great concert can change your life. This is what Humming Tree is aiming to do with Backdoors. They’re transcending genres and focused on just bringing India an unforgettable experience.

Since 2013 Humming Tree has been bringing Bangalore the very best in the performing arts and music and in February 2018, they’re ready to do it again. Backdoors is an outdoors concert experience with some of the world’s best artists. The next edition will bring you R&B powerhouse Anderson .Paak and the Free Nationals, easily one of 2016 and 2017’s biggest breakout acts of the year. Despite the Atlanta native’s slow-boiled success (he’d released several mixtapes over the years before suddenly experiencing meteoric but much-deserved fame after a few appearances on Dr. Dre’s Compton LP) post the release of his album Malibu, there’s been no looking back. Despite our seriously burgeoning market, India’s always had to wait patiently for its turn with major artists like these so it’s particularly heartening to see programming like this so early on. Other incredible lineup features include Brit alt-rockers Wolf Alice, rapper and beat poet Watsky, India’s own favourite Prateek Kuhad and many more.

Backdoors strips down the concert culture to the basics, the necessities and aims to turn that simplicity into something extraordinary. The eventual goal is start a revolution to stand alongside artists and bring back a sense of integrity to the music industry. With so many Indie bands fighting to make it into the spotlight, the lack of available platforms for anything out of the ordinary is a major stopping block for our music culture and by extension putting India out of the preferred circuit for International acts. With more small movements like Backdoors, hopefully we’ll see a metoric rise that puts India back in the heart of the music revolution.
