CNN reported that as of now, 14 lives have been lost and more than 150 people are missing.

The situation presents itself as a dangerous one for those in and around the areas. While the Indian Army and National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) have been making rescue efforts, here are the issued helplines to provide whatever help required.

  • Disaster Operations Centre: 1070 or 9557444486

Alternatively, one can also call 1905 for assistance.

Ashok Kumar, a senior official of Uttarakhand Police said to local reporters, “This was a one-time incident. The glacier broke, and with it, a portion on the mountain –– boulders and debris all came down and flooded the power project here ... There are two locations here which have been damaged heavily,” as reported by CNN.

It is advised to remain calm, and as tweeted by Uttarakhand Chief Minister Trivendra Singh Rawat, “Please do not spread rumors from old videos about the incident.”
