Nature Meets Design At This Beautiful Karjat House

Sara H.

Karjat has fast become a go-to escape from the hectic city life, hosting an array of holiday homes that make for quick, peaceful getaways. Cradled between the undulating hills and lofty slopes lies one of them, the beautiful Riparian House. Designed by the duo behind Architecture BRIO, Shefali Balwani and Robert Verrijt, Riparian is a family home that is another addition to India’s growing number of sustainable homes, definitely a step in the right direction.

With a green, vegetated roof, the House looks like an extension of the hillock, making it hard to view when you initially approach it. The high ceilings, big windows, woodwork and tiles beautifully complement the surrounding natural habitat, with a view of the river. Sun shines bright overhead the open courtyard that transforms into the perfect spot for stargazing at night.

The beauty of this house lies in its minimalist style and elegant design that gives you a feeling of groundedness as you’re immersed with nature.
