These Indian Transformers Illustrations Are Making Traffic Bearable Today

As you’re sitting in a haze of exhaust fumes and incessant honking, with dreams of a soft bed and a cold beer perhaps you’ve let your imagination stray. Hoping for someone to beam you up or whisk you away in a time travelling Police Box perhaps? For artist Anirudh Singh Shekhawat, his imagination took him to the world of the supercharged morphing robots, The Transformers. Although it’s now known for its multi-million dollar movie franchise, Anirudh has been a fan since he came across the original figurines in a local toy shop.
He has always used India as a source of inspiration in his work, so when he decided to put his own spin on the franchise he decided to pay homage to some of the country’s most iconic vehicles. In the hugely entertaining ‘Transformers India Project’ he reinvented some of the most recognisable sights from Indian roads into creations that would make Chitty Chitty Bang Bang weep with envy. He even gave them hilariously apt new names that fit their new badass personalities. So next time you’re stuck in traffic you can borrow Anirudh’s characters and play out your own Hollywood blockbuster. Desibots, roll out!
