This Weekend, Royal Opera House Is Hosting Movie Night For You

Cara Shrivastava

If ever there was a more apt venue to screen a ‘rockumentary’ in Mumbai, it would be at our city’s grandest headquarter for all things culture and music—The Royal Opera House. Decked out after a good two decades, the Royal Opera House only opened its doors to the public last year, marking a whole new era for those more culturally inclined. Love Jazz? Welcome to Live At The Quarter, their performance venue. Craving a finer dining experience? Look no further, they’ve got a Wine and Mozzarella Bar. Perhaps just a quick snack before a performance, or even after one? They’ve got an All Day Cafe, just waiting. Combining their love for music, culture and food in one place was a pure stroke of genius—much like their latest venture—their monthly movie screenings!

Priced between INR 400 to INR 500 depending on your seating preference; their Movie Nights aim at allowing their audience to experience the best music movies, in a venue deserving of it. Prepare yourself for a curated evening this Saturday, January 13 at 7PM, that highlights the legendary 1969 music festival, Woodstock. The film (Woodstock, 1970) is a rockumentary featuring performances, interviews, candid footage and more of 1960s America. The movie also showcases acts by Jimi Hendrix, Janis Joplin, Jefferson Airplane, The Who, Santana and more, while painstakingly chronicling the event from its conception to the very end.

As this is their very first edition of Movie Night, we’d suggest you get yourself a ticket as soon as you can—you definitely want bragging rights when it comes to this. Plus, wouldn’t it be nice to actually sit back, enjoy a film that actually titillates your grey cells, surrounded by like-minded individuals who’d be more than happy to discuss it after? (Or rather, at least you won’t have to deal with the uncouth hecklers.)
