The power of post-sunset laziness is usually underestimated, and in the fight against this laziness to actually brave the streets and grab some grub, the former wins out more often than not. Mumbai has often felt hard done by the lack of midnight food options that a city as sleepless as itself deserves. Luckily for us, a lot of good citizens have taken matters into their own hands to serve the needy in the dead of dawn amidst older establishments that identified the need for midnight delivery well before the turn of the decade. We put them all together to create the kind of manuscript few others can compete with — an ultimate guide to those places spread across the city that serve as your knight in the middle of the night.
I. Anda Apna Apna, Andheri (W)
This midnight haunt gets it’s name from popular 90’s Bollywood movie called Andaz Apna Apna. They do eggs in a lot of different styles unique to the restaurant. All of their dishes are named after characters from the movie. That being said, the food is pretty good too, especially if there is pao in your fridge.

II. Apna Dhaba, Chakala

One of the few legit options in that side of town, Apna Dhaba offers a multi-cuisine menu and it also delivers alcohol all night long. They have a good outdoor area to sit in as well, though there is nothing like eating comfort food at your own dining table at 4:00 AM.

III. Bademiya, Colaba

Bademiya’s definitely one of the most well-known joints in this department. Boasting a meat-heavy menu that has become the typical SOBO’s go-to place for a quick meal after midnight, it is probably a better bet to order home from this dingy street setup in Colaba, so that you can pretend the hygiene issues don’t exist.

IV. Burgzooka, Khar

A relatively new addition to Bandra’s late-night spots, Burgzooka is quickly becoming a crowd favourite. Their potato wedges are the right amount of crunchy, while their burger patties are perfectly juicy. This is a no-fuss sort of burger that sticks to cheese, patties and a few veggies — none of the usual overly sweet BBQ sauce.

V. Fatboy’s Kitchen, Andheri (W)

Fatboy’s targets the fat boy within all of us, the one who does not care about cholesterol or calories. These loaded burgers will ensure you sleep like a well fed kitten and as we’ve discovered, there aren’t many things that are better than a sinful burger to fulfill your late night guilty pleasures.

VI. Ice N Rolls, Juhu

Right opposite NMIMS College this small snack shack doesn’t seem like the kind of place to have an extensive menu. But, never have we ever been so wrong, this vegetarian only joint makes everything from grilled sandwiches to tandoori rolls and white sauce pasta to a mean cold coffee topped with ice cream.

VII. Jantar Mantar, Juhu
Delivers Till: 4:00 AM
Jantar Mantar is right outside the uber Novotel Hotel in Juhu. They serve traditional Bohri food till closing time, and their cheese stuffed Naan Turnovers are also quite the rage.

VIII. Mini Punjab, off Linkin Road (Bandra)

This is bang in the centre of Bandra, amidst where all the bars are. Herds of people walk here as soon as the bars kick them out. This had become a mainstay in the Bandra night food scene and it seems like it is going to stay this way for the foreseeable future. They deliver in and around the area and also do big party orders.

IX. Mogal Sarai, near Bandra Station (W)

Bat an eyelid and you will miss this tiny restaurant behind the Bandra station bus depot but luckily for everyone, they deliver warm fresh food right into your arms. Yes, they are another late night Mughlai food restaurant, but boy, do they do it well.

X. Pal’s Fish Corner, off Linkin Road (Bandra)
Delivers Till: 1:30 AM
Pals is often ignored as it is 20 paces into the Mini Punjab lane, but anyone who has eaten from this small place will vouch for the fact that it is probably the best priced of the lot and also offers the best value for money in terms of taste and portions. They also give you complimentary 90’s candies like Melody, Kismi and Mango Bite (Remember to ask for them).

XI. Persian Darbar, Byculla
Delivers Till: 2:30 AM
Persian Darbar is often referred to as the ‘Raan Kings’ of Mumbai. The King’s messengers deliver food straight to you and mind you this is some of the best biryani and raan available in the city, even at daytime.

XII. Raj Restaurant, Chembur (E)

XIII. Ranjeet Da Dhaba, Chembur (E)

This is a stone’s throw away from Raj in the Camp area, inside the smallest of bylanes. Parking here can be quite a headache, which is why calling for food is a much better option. And this way you never have to leave your couch, till you open the door to receive your order that is.

XIV. Sheetal Restaurant, Khar

Often eclipsed by Sheetal Bukhara down the lane, Sheetal Restaurant is a hidden jewel as far as late night food is concerned. They whip up anything from Lobsters to Brain Tava to satisfy your hunger pangs.
