Residents of Gurgaon rejoice! Traffic will sooner become lighter it seems, according to the report by India Today, Gurgaon is finally going to be the home to a pod taxi transport system.

The Transport Ministry has undertaken this futuristic project worth Rs 4,000 crores, the public will be travelling in driverless pods suspended on a ropeway around the NCR region. The construction of the first rail is set to begin by the end of this month. “We have received four bids from several companies, including two foreign firms. The bids are being scrutinised. The contract will be awarded after a formal decision is taken,” said a transport ministry official told Business Today.
The first phase will include 70 kilometre long  stretch from Dhaula Kuan in Delhi to Manesar in Haryana. Each pod taxi will be able to take five passengers and will have an average speed of 60 kilometre. Also included in this phase will be a pilot project covering a distance of 13kms from Delhi-Gurgaon border to Badshahpur Mod, which will have 16 stations.
The construction of these pod taxis promises to reduce traffic on NH-8, which will be a great relief to the people travelling towards the airport and millions of other daily office-goers. Since the entire network will be running on electricity, this system will not just reduce the amount of pollution that is produced by vehicles, but it is turning out to be pocket-friendly for the Transport Ministry as well--where building a kilometre of the metro cost the National Highway Authority of India (NHAI) a minimum of Rs 250 crore, the same distance of the ‘Metrino’ pod system will be built in just Rs 70 crore.
