Artist Brings Back Nostalgia For Bangalore's Push Carts Via Lovely Illustrations

“Art has been my fascination since I was very young. I remember distinctly drawing on the red oxide wall of my house, which became my canvas to practice my drawings.” said Ranganath Krishnamani. Krishnamani is an artist and designer who was fascinated by the culture of push carts in major cities; the vada pav carts of Mumbai and the flower carts in Chennai being a few. He decided to design a series of illustrations from memory of each of the push carts he would see by his house in his native Bangalore. He was first inspired to do them while still in college where he had to submit sketches every day. He would often go study his subjects at the market in their daily lives and recreate them.

These quirky, minimalist illustrations are designed to bring back the nostalgia of childhood and showcase the real stars of India’s streets. “From colourful flowers to fresh vegetables, shaved ice golas to flavourful snack, they form the cultural lifeline, fulfilling the essential needs of any household across all Indian towns,” said Krishnamani.
