I love waffles that are crispy and brown,

No waffle in the world could ever make me frown,

Hot and steamy on a plate,

Nothing could ever taste so great.

At Homegrown, we’re all foodies, as evidenced by our numerous posts lusting after food, from pork belly to the city’s most unique icecreams. While we have our respective favourites here in the office, there’s one thing we can all agree on—there’s something about waffles that just makes them the ultimate favourite. Heck, we’re even guilty of making a quick waffle run or two when we’re feeling a bit moody, because nothing says ‘I love you, cheer up!’ like a plate of buttery, crispy goodness.

Keeping that in mind, we scoured Mumbai for its finest waffles, right in time for the perfect end to your weekend. Whether you like them sweet (with honey, maple syrup or chocolate) or savoury (with eggs, ham or cheese), rest assured there’s a waffle here for everyone.

I. Dark And White Chocolate Fantasy at The Belgian Waffle Co.

While the safest and best option is nine times out of ten a good ol’ Nutella Waffle, it also means you’re missing out on this majorly underrated waffle. A waffle made out of Belgian Dark Chocolate batter, topped with white chocolate, makes for the perfect balance of bitter and sweet. Their waffles are also the perfect blend of crunchy and light—goading several customers into going for seconds. (Guilty as charged.)

Cost: A moment on your lips, forever on your hips, but so, so worth it at INR 130.

II. Duck and Waffle at Woodside Inn

Now here’s a meal that is 100% cheat meal, but 0% guilt! The fanciest waffle of them all, goes to Woodside Inn, when they combined gastronomy and the classic waffle, to give their customers the best of both worlds. Slow cooked duck meets a citrus reduction, complimented by the crisp edge of a waffle—we’re already cancelling every other brunch plan.

Cost: Treat yourself to this brunch, if you know what’s good for you at INR 695.

III. Brussels Waffles at Chocolateria San Churro

“Why would you go to a churro place and get WAFFLES?” — Every person we suggest this to. Let us explain. Not only do you get churros that have been perfected over the years, but you also get the same delicious batter in the form of waffles! If they’ve spent all their time getting their churros crisped just right, it was only a matter of time before their waffles did too. Plus, this one comes with a double scoop of ice cream, some of their popular dipping chocolate, and a bunch of seasonal fresh fruit (a.k.a. MANGOES!)

Cost: Maybe split this one at INR 325.

IV. Waffles Croque Madame at The Pantry

If we were handing out an award for creativity, this dish would win hands down. The Pantry shows off its playful, inventive style with its Waffles Croque Madame—waffles topped with local ham, béchamel sauce and a sunny side up fried egg served with homemade bacon jam (yes!) and mustard. Look at this image and try not to shed copious tears of joy. We dare you.

Cost: Let’s just say we’d be willing to shell out a lot more than Rs. 395 for this masterpiece.

V. Chicken and Waffles at Poetry by Love and Cheesecake

If there’s one recipe we’d want to steal from this entire list, it’s the one behind Poetry by Love and Cheesecake’s Honey-Tabasco sauce, drizzled all over their signature waffles. Diced chicken, oodles of cheese, and buttermilk waffles make for one heck of a meal that we just can’t get enough of. Be warned, although you think you can scarf this down in one sitting, it’ll take you a while to get through it. But trust us, it is worth every darn bite.

Cost: For INR 180, we’d get these e’rryday, if our hearts promised to not give out on us.

VI. Red Velvet Waffles at 145 Bandra

When the Red Velvet trend first hit, those cupcakes were everyone’s guilty pleasure for a long, long time. It snuck it’s way into cake, milkshakes and...waffles. You’d think after all this time we’d be done with the trend, but we’re suckers for that cream cheese frosting—which is exactly what this delicious waffle is slathered in.

Cost: An odd price for an odder (but delicious) waffle at INR 223.
