The Absolute Best Places For Thai Food In Mumbai

Considering a majority of Thai cuisine revolves around curries or rice, the plethora of Thai restaurants in Mumbai come as no surprise. The similarity ends there though, as Indian food incorporates dry masalas while Thai food focuses on pastes and fresh herbs. Lemongrass scented, coconut-y gravy is comfort in a bowl for several but finding a restaurant that actually balances every aspect to near perfection is a rare find. Thankfully, since our lives here at Homegrown revolve around food, we’ve managed to sample our fair share of Thai curries, pad thai and tom yum. Scroll on for a list of our favourite Thai diners to order in from or simply have a nice dinner at:

Where: Ground Floor, FIFC Building, Bandra Kurla Complex

When balance is what you’re looking for in your sweet and spicy sauce, BusaGo is where you should order from. Their ‘Busa Bowls’, specifically the Spicy Chili Noodles should be a staple for those with a weakness for Thai. If you’re not a fan of spice though, opt for the Thai Red Curry Chicken. No, that wasn’t a typo. We’ve tried their Red Curry several times and the spice is just right — not overpowering, but subdued by just the right amount of coconut, lemongrass, galangal and kaffir lime.

Cost: INR 800 for two.

Where: The St. Regis, 462 Senapati Bapat Marg, Lower Parel

Located in one of Mumbai’s most exclusive hotels, the St. Regis, you know you’re in for some 5 star treatment. The atmosphere is exactly what you’d expect, candlelit elegance, perfect first date material. Chef Shi Xilin’s dedication to excellence means that you could basically point at anything on this menu and leave a happy camper but we especially love the steamed John Dory with baby spinach and white asparagus.

III. Joss

Where: Savoy Chambers, Next To Mini Cooper Showroom, Santacruz West

The ideal dinner date spot, Joss is a popular spot for fine dining. A tad bit on the expensive side, the restaurant is known for their sushi, but here’s an item on their menu that’s underrated — their pad thai. This bowl of stir-fried goodness, topped with crunchy veggies, and roasted peanuts make for one heck of a satisfying dish. While we cannot personally attest to their thai curry, we’ve heard only good things about it.

Cost: INR 2,000 for two.

Where: 274, Shivaji Park, Veer Savarkar Marg, Dadar Shivaji Park

If you’re on the hunt for authenticity, look no further this old school joint in Shivaji Park. They have a reputation for the freshest ingredients paired with the most traditional recipes. This is not the sort of food you get at your local takeaway so some things may be an acquired taste. Like their Phad Phrik Khing Moo Kab Thua Fak Yao, a mouthful in more ways than one this pork with chilli paste and beans will knock your socks off.

Cost: INR 2,500 for two.

Where: Vivanta by Taj President, 90, Cuffe Parade

Some of the best Tom Yum soup in the city is found right here at Thai Pavilion. Yes, it’s going to be expensive, the portion size will be smaller than the usual, but boy oh boy, does that soup touch your soul. The Green Thai Curry with sticky rice is an old-school combo, but if you want the finest version of it in Mumbai — look no further. If you’re feeling adventurous though, ask one of the waiters, they’ll be more than happy to recommend a dish from their ever-changing menu.

Cost: INR 4,000 for two.

Where: Shop 1, Sai Pooja Building, 16th Road & 33rd Road Junction, Pali Hill, Bandra West

This new kid on the block has quickly stolen our hearts...and our stomachs. A perfect symphony of flavours with every bite they’ve made a name with their impeccable sushi, but nothing comes close to their skill with Thai food. Though their premises are small and unassuming, the go big on taste. You can find the standard favourites like Pad Thai and Yakitori skewers but if you want to branch out we recommend super spicy minced chicken and basil or the spicy crispy pork.

Cost: INR 1,500 for two.
