There’s something downright eerie about seeing the pop icons we’ve grown up with, and around, thrown into some sort of dystopian futuristic nightmare - it can’t be denied. And so it was when we came across Instagram artist Filip Hodas’ series on dystopian pop icons. According to this article, the series began as a sort of experiment in which the artist himself was trying to explore different programs. “He was attempting to add Substance Painter to his arsenal of illustration tools and creating a series of quirky mashups was just what he needed.” Another article says that all of the textures are made procedurally in Substance Designer, with added detail from Illustrator and Photoshop. We assure you that these are all icons you are vastly familiar with - now seen through the lens of forgone, lost memories.
