This Mumbai Initiative Is Bringing Colour To The City’s Slums
Chal Rang De

In an ideal world, poverty would be obsolete but taking a walk down any Mumbai street is proof enough that such a utopia is far from a reality. Dozens of NGO’s across the city are engaged in educating and improving the lives of slum dwellers and while their work is incredibly important most don’t prioritise improving the aesthetic elements of slum life.

But there is one initiative that believes that a splash of colour can go a long way, Chal Rang De by the digital agency, Fruitbowl in Mumbai. Their goal is to revamp the city’s slums from the outside in, renovating the exteriors with artwork which then facilitates opportunities for slum tourism, helping them attain a self-sufficient lifestyle. They welcome volunteers of all abilities and skill levels so even if you’re not much of an artist, don’t hesitate to join their movement.

By changing the face of slum life Chal Rang De hopes to bring a bit of beauty to Mumbai’s concrete jungle. They also hope to alter people’s perspectives of these slums and help them see beyond the poverty to the bustling and fascinating communities within.
