Kochi Biennale Is Hosting A 5-Month Art Mediation Programme—Apply Now

Every year the Kerala tourism industry observes a spike in its stats as hordes of tourists, from countries beyond just India, swarm to visit the port city of Kerala for an event that’s beyond the state’s beautiful backwaters and glorious fish fry. The Kochi-Muziris Biennale, also simply known as the Kochi Biennale, is a much awaited event as far as the South Asian artist community is concerned. Over the last six years, this art exhibition has grown enormously, becoming Asia’s biggest contemporary art festival.

This year’s Kochi-Muziris Biennale, apart from showcasing a treasure chest of talent, is also inviting applications for their new Art Mediation Programme – a five-month paid programme beginning November 2018. “The function of the mediation team will be to facilitate contact with the artworks at the Biennale exhibition for the visitors”, reads their official website. The role of mediator will essentially involve serving as the point of contact between the public and the art exhibition and participating in research activities undertaken by the Foundation.

Each candidate will have to undergo prior training and receive specialised instructions from the Foundation’s research team. Responsibilities will include participating in multiple research programmes set up by the Foundation and conducting guided tours of the exhibition for the public present at this year’s annual Biennale.

According to the website, “Candidates must demonstrate a keen interest in contemporary art practices and possess excellent verbal and written communication skills in English and/or Malayalam.”

Selected candidates will also be provided with a remuneration of Rs. 12,000 per month, along with shared accommodation for the said duration.

The application deadline is 30th September, 2018

Duration: Nov 2018 – Mar 2019

Location: Fort Kochi, Kerala
