Calling the attention of all literature enthusiasts to this amazing month-long festival organised by Penguin Random House to celebrate iconic classical works. This is by no means a limited range, it presents works of about 500 authors, from Homer’s Odyssey and Japanese sagas to poetry from the First World War. The tagline of the festival is “There is one for everyone”, and the variety of books caters to all ages, and includes vintage children’s works as well. The festival contains books from Penguin Classics, Penguin Modern Classics, Vintage Classics, Everyman Library, Bantam Classics, Murty Classical Library of India, Puffin Classics and Vintage Children Classics
Hery Eliot, the Creative Director at Penguin Classics tells The Tribune, “For more than seven decades Penguin Classics has provided the world with accessible, affordable editions of the best books ever written, and I’m very much looking forward to celebrating this extraordinary library of classic literature.”
The festival will include rare selections of books that have not been available before as well as special promotions and discounts. There will also be book readings, giveaways and talks organised at the bookstores along with special bespoke merchandise based on the classic books. Eliot will also be touring across these cities to schools and other centres to hold workshops and interactive sessions to promote the festival.
The country-wide affair is on till the end of November and is being held across popular bookstores in major cities. In Mumbai, it is hosted by Kitab Khana, in Bengaluru by Blossoms book house, and in Delhi by the K2 book house at their Khan Market, GK 2 and Nizamuddin outlets. Starmark book stores will be hosting the festival in all their branches in Kolkata and Chennai.
