Mumbai, Disrupt Music Festival Is The Only Place You’ll Want To Spend Your Weekend

What began as an ordinary music festival in 2017, Disrupt has evolved into the next stage of Mumbai’s clubbing culture. Curated and programmed by Mumbai-based music management agency, Mixtape, in partnership with Social, the second edition of Disrupt will feature some of the most well-known electronic music artists in India and abroad over the course of two jam-packed days this weekend.

Naveen Deshpande, who founded Mixtape in 2010 and is one of the best lighting engineers in the country, says, “I am really happy about how the entire line-up has shaped up this year. Each artist has something unique to offer. My colleague Sainath has got the curation on point and I think each set is going to fit into another really well. I am going to add that we are very lucky to have Sam (Zero 7) agree to play this DJ set for us in middle of his busy recording schedule for the new Zero 7 record… so damn excited about that!”

The main acts at this urban music festival are Sam Hardaker from British electronic act Zero 7, Free the Robots, a pioneering beatmaker from Los Angeles, and Lefto, one of Europe’s top DJs. Joining these artists are BLOT, Mumbai-based bass producer, Dutch duo, Know V.A., Kaleekarma, Abhi Meer, bigfat, DJ Uri, Fourmi Rouz, Spyrk, and Tsunami Soup Collection, all of whom promise to pack a killer punch.

But that’s not all; Disrupt is set to bring Mumbai an “audio-visual experience” like never before. Naveen elaborates and says, “We have collaborated with Delhi-based designer Aaquib Wani for a beautiful stage design... We have a full new range of Martin lighting at the festival. We are also testing creative led video fixtures which is the next big thing in lighting. The crisp sounding war horse JBL VT series PA system also used at Magnetic Fields is something I am personally looking forward to. Those arrays are going to be something.”

Naveen says that his team has even collaborated with Butt Ballot to provide proper disposal and recycling stations for cigarettes. So if you’re one of the lucky first 200 entrants, you will get a Disrupt x Butt Ballot pocket ashtray in addition to all the fun at this two-day party. Although it’s a herculean task to organise a gig or music festival in Mumbai because of the struggle to find appropriate, safe, and spacious venues, Naveen and his team are immensely excited for what they’re introducing to Mumbai’s music scene.

Disrupt is scheduled to begin at 4:30 p.m. on November 16 and 17 in Famous Studios. You can buy tickets here for Rs. 1599.
